Preserving Natural Ecosystems in Comoros

In the region of Moya, Comoros, on the island Ndzuani, a subdivision of UNDP (United Nations Development Program) Comoros called the National Network of Protected Areas (RNAP) seeks to preserve and maintain environmental protection of natural ecosystems in the face of tourism. Richina Boinali, a 24-year-old eco-guard with a degree in tourism, is assigned to the area in her hometown that includes the National Park of Mt. Ntringui. Her work includes environmental protection and maintenance of local community infrastructure. A focus in her work is the preservation of the local fruit bat population, considered an endemic species in the area. She carries out awareness campaigns at local community spots, advocating against deforestation and poaching. The goal of the RNAP project is the maintenance of local infrastructure and environment in the hopes of building a stronger, more sustainable tourism economy in Comoros.
